Understory Landscape Architecture is seeking a Project Manager/Landscape Designer with 5-10 years of experience.

OUR PRACTICE

Established in 2022, Understory is currently developing ecological landscape designs on a range of project types and scales throughout the Northeast. Principal Jeffrey Longhenry has been practicing for 20 years, working most recently with Nelson Byrd Woltz for 14 years. He fosters a collaborative environment and engages a design process elevating creativity, beauty, horticulture, and the contemporary expression of ecological systems to create landscapes for people.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

We are seeking a curious, creative, highly intuitive individual with a keen sense of humor and sharp critical thinking skills.

The ideal candidate possesses the desire, skills, judgment, creativity, and capability to manage projects and to carry out design and production on the full range of the practice’s work, from research, concept studies, graphics, and renderings to construction documentation, detailing, specifications, and construction administration. The position will also entail contributing to non-project work that may include marketing, promotional materials, and site visits with travel within the region.

• At least 5+ years experience working in a professional Landscape Architecture practice

• Facility with grading, planting design, detailing, and construction documents

• Graphic sensibility – illustrative plans, diagrams, and perspective / 3D renderings

• Facility in crafting design presentations, sourcing design precedents, and graphic layout

• Experience communicating professionally with clients and consultants

• High level of English language written and verbal communication skills

• Knowledge of native and adaptive plants (Northeastern US)

• Ability to multitask and manage workload across multiple projects simultaneously

• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Adobe CCS, Microsoft Word and Excel

• Proficiency with Rhino, Lumion or other 3D/rendering programs

EDUCATION

Bachelors in Landscape Architecture (BLA) or graduate degree (MLA) from an accredited Landscape Architecture program

Salary is $70,000 - $90,000 commensurate with experience and hours. The position is for immediate hire and will be mostly in person with flexibility on part-time or full-time.
